Pastor's Family

These are a couple of the pictures that I took of the pastor and his family, (the one blonde girl is the friend of the daughter she came home with her) The kids were home this last weekend and so we spent some time with them playing games, actually we played scum, (and I was king for quite a while) just for some peoples information! haha
Anyways, these people are so great and we love it when they home. The pastor and his family are so kind and welcoming. Well I just wanted to show you their picture so that you meet them as well. OK have to go, working in the office. Hope you are all well. Know that I am well and happy, the only thing is that I am freezing!!! OK talk later D

Snake!!!

When we went to the museum I saw my first snake. AAAHHH
Actually I was excited and scared to death, but I followed it and poked
it with a stick. It was only a med adult but looked like a baby(well
at least I thought it was at the time) so I felt braver. It is called a puff adder
and they can bite, they are really quick at striking but they are not poisonious.
By the way when I said that I poked it, it was with a long stick so I
was completely safe.

And these are some local boys who were hanging around the museum, so I thought I would get a picture of them. Have a wonderful day. D

Zulu Museum

This is one of the Zulu shields.

And this was the gift shop but we got there too late and so it was closed. Oh well at least I got a picture of it. These huts are so cool, I wish that you could see them, they are really cool. When we got there, no one was around and so we went around the outside and looked around. When we came back out there was this man lying on a mat and I don't know if he had been there the whole time, or if he just showed up, but he let us into the museum, so that was cool. It's just too bad that we couldn't get into the gift shop it might have been intersting to see what was in there. Alright gotta go, talk again later. D

Blood River Historical Site

This place is where there was a huge battle between the Zulu people and the Afrikaaner farmers. There were only 800 of the people inside these wagons and there were thousands and thousands of the zulus. They set up these wagons like this and that is why they won the battle. The Zulu people came over and over again to kill them, but in the beginning the farmers tried to negotiate but the Zulu people killed those ones and that is where the battle started.

This is one of the canons that they had, and they only had 3 positioned very stategically, and they had guns and that is all they had. They also had lanterns on each wagon and these were on for the night, so that is what also saved them. There was a heavy fog that night and some of the Zulus got lost and the others sat and waited, and when morning came the farmers were surprised to see them so close, and the zulus were surprised that they were so close as well. Then the battle started and that is when is procceeded into the river. The Zulu were running away when they caught them in the river and that is where they died, and the river turned red with the blood.

They wrote this vow to God because they were so little and they needed His help.

Some time after the battle was over some of the Zulu people came back and some of the farmers came back and they set up this little monument together. Wow, together after that big battle where they were against each other. There was a plaque on the ground there as well and it said that this was the very centre of where it all happened.
It was so incredible to be there where it actually happened and then we ended up going over the blood river and seeing a Zulu museum. I will show you pictures of that as well. But I wanted to share this with you, because it was so interesting to me, I thought some of you would find it intersting as well. D

Museum

These are the pictures that I took when we went to the museum yesterday. It was very interesting. These are pictures of the Zulu people in there war outfits. There have been a lot of battles in the past between the Zulus and Afrikaans and others. I will tell you more about it all in the next blog. We went yesterday to these two historical places because Thomas's parents are here from Switzerland and so we took them there, which was handy for us because we hadn't been to the one of the places either. I bought some more postcards and so I will be sending some of those. Ok must go and hang up posters, we are having this guy come here and he is a mission mobilizer, and he's been working in Cambodia, so hopefully we'll get to see some pictures from there. Kids Holiday Time

The kids here had a two week break from school and so we did a drama about the wordless book. Here is the gold page being acted out. You can't see me, Valerie and I are behind in the bakkie throwing the created things over. Here Thomas is being God.

Here is the red page and Thomas has just been crucified. And Tracy and Maryse are sinners coming to the cross. There is also music being played from inside the Bakkie. The two girls were created in the Gold page and then in the black page scene, the girls put on black and now they have laid it at the foot of Jesus.

WE had the verses written in Zulu and the guy beside me was translating for us, it was nice to have him there to do that, his name is Ncosiapa.

And here are a bunch of the kids that were there to see the drama. Praise the Lord it worked. Then after we played kind of like four corners and dodge ball. The kids seemed to like it. So that's what we did for the kids on their holiday, it was fun. We are doing it tommorrow for the kids club here. Hope all goes well. Ok talk later. D

Garden: Before & After

This is a picture of the garden when I first got here, and now...

They ripped everything out and started over again. There has been a lot of work that has gone into the garden, now we just need the plants and they are supposed to be coming some time, you never know though. And we had a rotatiller and it broke. It seems like so much of the stuff here is broken or breaking, so please pray that the Lord would provide for this area. Looks good though eh! Ok have a great day. D

It really was great fun.

More Lions & A Tiger

This one was yawning and it looked really scary so we got a picture of it.

This one just as we were leaving they threw a dead cow into the pen and we watched these lions tear at it, it was really something to see this. Especially since I've only ever seen it on discovery or something like that.

This was the male lion and he was incredible to watch, so powerful.

And here this was when we rented the quads and drove to go and see this guy, he was beautiful.

More Cubs

Here he started to eat my watch, isn't he cute?!

This one was a bit older and so they told us to be careful that maybe we shouldn't go into his area, but one of the ladies that works there went in so then so did I. He made me a bit more nervous because when I would point the camera at him he would want to come to me and he looked serious.

Here Tracy was dancing with one of them and I thought that it was so incredibily adorable that I had to get a picture.

And this one, he started to lick my skin and that was interesting, their tongues are very rough and he probably thought that we tasted very good, well at least he'll think that in a few months!! So cute though, I will never forget that experience. The next pictures will be of the adult lions, they are quite something. Ok talk later D

First the baby lions!

Aren't they the sweetest things!! I couldn't believe that we were there with lion cubs, it was the most amazing thing ever.

As I was holding him I was nervous because even though they were babies, they were still lions and had huge paws for being so small. But they were cute and soft and just wonderful.

I was taking pictures of them and this one started to get intersted in my camera and so I kept taking pictures and he continued to get closer, it was so cute.

They were so cute to hold, and they were heavy as well. They were all sleeping when we arrived there and so when we picked them up they were lazy in our arms and all cudly. I still can't believe that we were holding lions!!! I will show you some more pictures of them and their claws and teeth.
Well, this was an experience of a life time, and I am so grateful to have done it. I will never forget it. I hope that you enjoy the pictures. Have a wonderful day. D

Conference

This is a few of the people that I met when I was in Durban, they work at the headquarters. The one of the left is Keith, then June, then Val, and Wendy.

This is WEndy, she is the one from Clagary and she phones me every once in a while to see how I am doing, so is really nice to have her here.

These are most of the missionaries that are in South Africa. We went to the conference from April 5th to April 1oth. It was so nice to see old friends and make new ones. It was also nice to just get away for a few days. We are home now and just taking the day easy. My legs are actually sore from sitting in those chairs everyday almost all day, but it was good.
Things are good here, Tracy leaves me soon, so that is making me a little worried. We get along so good and it's so nice to have a fellow N. American here. I am going to go down to Durban when she goes and see her off. It will be so sad, but I am grateful to the Lord for Him letting her come here at this time. The Lord is so good, He knows what you need right when you need it.
OK gotta go, tomorrow I will show you the pictures that I took at the Lion park that we went to. It was one of the most amazing things that I have ever done. Till tommorrow! D
